Why iGaming Employers Now Hold the Cards in 2025

The iGaming job market is undergoing one of its most dramatic shifts in years. Employers, faced with tighter budgets and an oversupply of skilled candidates, now hold the advantage in salary negotiations and career offers. According to Cordelia Morgan-Cooper, founder of CMC Consulting, this recalibration is reshaping how both employers and candidates navigate the industry.

iGaming Talent Market: Employers Take Control

“The market is becoming much more competitive,” Cordelia explained in an interview with SiGMA News. “There are many more highly qualified candidates now. Businesses are aware of this, so they can counter with lower salaries than before.”

Data backs this up. The iGB-Pentasia Salary Survey 2024 found that salary growth across iGaming stabilized at just 3.3% in 2024—down from double-digit increases in 2022. While tech and data roles still command strong pay, most employers are cautious, offering leaner packages and asking candidates to justify expectations more rigorously than ever.

Cordelia added: “Whether it’s €40,000 or €400,000, salaries from four or five years ago are no longer a benchmark.”

Mergers and Acquisitions Reshape iGaming Careers

The wave of M&A activity in iGaming has changed career pathways, particularly for finance and leadership roles. Large operators continue to absorb smaller companies, creating opportunities for transaction-savvy professionals, but narrowing diversity in career routes.

Recent deals include:

  1. Flutter Entertainment’s €2.3 billion takeover of Italy’s Snaitech
  2. Playtech’s exit from B2C with the sale of HAPPYBET Group
  3. Apollo Global’s €5.4 billion digital casino merger with Everi Holdings and IGT’s assets

Cordelia advises candidates to consider smaller businesses where they can gain broader exposure, rather than focusing only on the industry’s dominant employers.

Salary Pressures and Competitive Hiring

CMC Consulting data revealed 25 declined offers in 2025 due to salary disputes. More concerning, Cordelia reported cases where companies extended offers, had them accepted, and later withdrew them—a situation she had “never seen in 12 years of recruitment.”

Employers are also putting more candidates through the final interview stage, with five or six shortlisted instead of the traditional two or three. This demonstrates the increased leverage companies hold over applicants.

The Skills That Matter in iGaming Careers

Beyond technical expertise, employers are prioritizing soft skills and leadership qualities in today’s hybrid work environment.

“The modern iGaming leader should be empathetic, resilient, hardworking, and adaptable,” Cordelia said. “Technical skills can be taught, but soft skills are harder to develop.”

Industry reports confirm the trend. A ZipDo survey shows more companies investing in leadership training, linking flexible management styles to higher employee retention.

Gen Z Redefines the Employer Value Proposition (EVP)

As Gen Z talent enters the iGaming workforce, employers are adapting their EVP to emphasize purpose and values. A 2024 Gartner study found that Gen Z candidates rank purpose and flexibility above salary when considering job offers.

CSR initiatives are now more attractive than perks like Friday office drinks. For example, one iGaming employer introduced a program allowing staff to dedicate 20% of working hours to charitable projects, an initiative that resonates with younger professionals.

Outlook: Stay Realistic, Stay Ready

Cordelia warns that while the iGaming job market remains competitive, candidates shouldn’t lose hope. “It’s not that you’re not great at what you do,” she said. “It’s just that someone else might accept a lower salary.”

Her advice:

  1. Upskill continuously—data analysis, compliance knowledge, and tech fluency remain in demand.
  2. Stay flexible—adapt to new roles and hybrid environments.
  3. Prioritize job security—stability may outweigh a risky move in a volatile market.
